A Round for Rileigh

Catherine Hanson’s granddaughter, Rileigh Hanson, is a 17-year-old Junior at Winter Park High School and dreams of becoming a doctor without borders one day. She’s a spirited, compassionate, and all-around amazing girl who was diagnosed with CANCER. Six letters no one ever wants to hear.

In early October 2017, she went to have a routine sport’s physical when they found a lump on her neck. The diagnosis: Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, stage 2. She started chemo treatments at Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital in November and had her fourth (and final) in February. The prognosis is excellent with a success rate of 95%+. Fortunately, the family has insurance, but it will only cover 80% of expenses.

Rileigh lost her beautiful long blond hair, but has a fantastic attitude, and has gained friendships along the way. During her long stays in the hospital for chemo, she developed a strong connection with other kids who were suffering. Even though chemo claimed most of her energy, she made an effort to visit with others to cheer them up. She’s one special kid!
